The data was obtained from the total number of followers that a football club has on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.
The Spanish La Liga club has a total of 362 million followers on all four social media platforms.
The second most popular football club in the world is Barcelona. The Catalans have a total of 342 million followers on the four social media platforms.
Barcelona is followed by English Premier League side Manchester United which is the third of only three football clubs with a total social media followers of more than 200 million. Currently, the Red Devils have a total of 206 million social media followers.
The fourth most popular football club in the world currently is, surprisingly, French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain. The French club has a total of 187 million social media followers on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. This is mainly because of the influence of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr, and Lionel Messi at the club.
The fifth most popular football club in the world in 2023, based on social media followers, is the Italian Serie A club, Juventus. The Old Ladies have a total of 144 million followers on the major social media platforms.
