Biography of Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Edem Ironbar

Rt. Hon. (Lady) Elizabeth Edem Ironbar was born on the 4th June, 1955. She hailed from Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

She attended Community Secondary School Ugep between 1971 and 1974 got her West African School Examination Council Certificate (WASCE).

Between 1976 and 1977 she attended Teachers Training College Ifuho got her Teachers Grade Two Certificate of Education (NCE).

She went further to the Polytechnic, Calabar between 1987 and 1989 where she later proceeded to the University of Calabar, Calabar in 1992 and was awarded a Degree in Administration (B.Ed) in the year 1995.

She did her National Youth Service in 1984.

Her work experience spans over the following:

Teacher; Federal Housing Primary School, Calabar Cross River State between 1974 – 1980
West Africa People Institute, Calabar Cross River State 1984 – 1990,

Vice Principal, Margaret Ekpo Women Vocational Centre/ Secondary School between 1991 – 1999.

From 2000 – 2002, She was the Supervisor of the General Administration of the Council, Akpabuyo Local Government Council.

She equally served as Secretary of Council in Akpabuyo Local Government Council between 2008 and 2010 and between 2012 and 2014,

She served as a Liaison officer between government and the constituents, Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

In 2001 she was awarded in recognition of her significant contributions as best Secretary of the year.

She had worked in the following NGOs as:
Co-ordinator: Women Examination in Africa (WEA) NGO 1997 – 2004,

Co-ordinator: Better Life for African Women (BLAW) NGO 2003 – 2007,

Chairman: Horticulture Society Akwa Ibom/Cross River NGO 2004 – 2007.

Rt. Hon. Ironbar spoke French and English fluently and loved travelling and reading.

Unfortunately Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Edem Ironbar died on 27th October 2021, aged 66 years. Two (2) years into her Second Tenure as Member representing Akpabuyo State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly.
