Ojai Shaken Again by 3.5 Magnitude Aftershock a Day After Major Tremor
Ojai, Ventura County – Just a day after a substantial 5.1 magnitude earthquake rocked much of Ventura County, residents experienced yet another tremor, with an aftershock registering at 3.5 magnitude on Monday around 4:50 p.m. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) provided a preliminary report detailing the event.
The epicenter of Monday’s aftershock was situated approximately 3.7 miles southeast of Ojai, at a depth of roughly 9.5 miles. These aftershocks are typical in the aftermath of significant seismic events like Sunday’s earthquake. While most aftershocks occur within a short time frame of the initial quake, they can persist for days or even weeks.
Sunday’s earthquake, which coincided with the impact of Tropical Storm Hilary, reverberated across the region, leading to property damage and heightened anxiety among residents. Although the quake reached as far as the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County, prompt response efforts by the Los Angeles Fire Department prevented any serious injuries.
In the aftermath of Sunday’s tremor, more than two-dozen aftershocks were reported, with one reaching a magnitude of approximately 4.0. The ongoing seismic activity underscores the unpredictable nature of earthquakes and their ability to disrupt daily life.
Although Monday’s aftershock was felt over a wide area, most individuals who reported the sensation described its intensity as “weak” or “light,” according to the USGS report.
